👩🏫 Boost your knowledge.
The CDC now recommends everyone 18 years old + older get their COVID-19 vaccine booster shot. Find answers to frequently asked questions on the booster shot below as well as resources you can share with those looking for more information.
Q: What is a booster + do I need to get one?
A: A booster is an extra dose of the vaccine given to someone who's already been vaccinated, but that protection has decreased over time.
Although COVID-19 vaccination remains effective in preventing severe disease, recent data suggest vaccination becomes less effective over time, especially in people aged 65 + older + at preventing infection or milder illness with symptoms.
Learn more in this 1-minute video from pharmacist Emily Shafer on Youtube.
Q: Who is eligible to get the booster?
A: Federal guidelines recommend that fully vaccinated people 18 + older get a booster shot after 6 months have passed since their initial vaccination.
Visit vaccinate.virginia.gov or call (877) VAX-IN-VA (877-829-4682) to find a site near you.
Q: Which booster should I get?
A: You may choose which COVID-19 vaccine you receive as a booster shot. Some people may prefer the vaccine type that they originally received, + others may prefer to get a different booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix + match dosing for booster shots.
